For years I struggled finding products for my curls. Through the long co wash and curl cream craze of the early 2000’s all the way until 2019. Almost a decade into doing hair I attended my first curly educational class by an amazing local curl specialist Kia Fay. In this class I was finally introduced to a simple approach to hair care. Turns out all we need is to wash our hair and scalp with a lathering shampoo then right out of the shower on soaking wet hair apply our styling aid (which depending on your hair type) can be only 1-2 products! Water based gels, very light spray conditioning mists or water based setting foams are ideal. The ability for hair to be hydrated is the ability for the hair to retain water. Creams, oils, butters, and leave-in conditioners all create a thick barrier of build up on the hairs outer cuticle and scalp. Therefore blocking water from nourishing the inside of our hair strands.
